The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter’s Wide-Angle Camera was programmed to photograph 1300 separate images of the lunar surface during December 2010. The images were then compiled to produce a lunar mosaic that comes in at a jaw-dropping 24,000 X 24,000 pixels.
